Given the importance of the industry, it is surprising how poorly this value is understood and appreciated in general by the public, government and even other healthcare professionals. The industry is endeavouring to elevate the profile of the laboratory and to increase visibility of the value delivered by both the pathology providers and in vitro diagnostic companies.

One such initiative is "Labs Are Vital™” (Iabsarevital.com). The program supports laboratory professionals everywhere by giving the profession a voice and by extending the influence of the laboratory within the health care community.
