Australia's first c16000 instrument installed at Medlab
Abbott Introduces High Speed Diagnostic Instruments in ARCHITECT® Family: First Instruments on way to Australia
Abbott Diagnostics recently announced the expansion of its ARCHITECT® immunochemistry family with the introduction of the ARCHITECT® c16000™ clinical chemistry analyser and ARCHITECT® ci16200™, an integrated immunoassay and clinical chemistry analyser. Designed to enhance productivity and meet the high-volume requirements of large laboratories, both instruments help labs manage patient samples efficiently and offer fast turn-around times for test results.
The ARCHITECT c16000 can generate up to 1800 tests per hour while the ARCHITECT ci16200 can process up to 2000 tests per hour.
The first c16000 instruments in Australia will be installed into Medlab, one of the fastest growing private laboratories in Sydney. Two c16000 units will be integrated with i2000SR instruments already installed, to create to create two ci16200 platforms: these will process the frontline clinical biochemistry and immunoassay tests at Medlab. Installation is scheduled for June and the lab anticipates going live in July.
Laboratory Principal Fred Kassem said: " We have used the Abbott ARCHITECT i2000 for our immunoassay testing for some years. Our workload is continually increasing for both immunoassay and chemistry, so we needed to increase our instrument capabilities to handle this. When we learned Abbott was developing a high throughput chemistry analyser that could be integrated to their immunoassay platform, we were very interested. By installing dual Abbott ci16200 instruments, not only will we increase our capacity, we will create single platforms for chemistry and immunoassay tests, permit better utilisation of staff and reduce turnaround times”.
Today, laboratories face increasing pressure to process numerous tests with fewer trained personnel due to labour shortages in the medical technology field. With their extensive menu of diagnostic tests, user-friendly software and advanced sample management capabilities, ARCHITECT analysers help laboratories standardise processes and inventory. Additionally, the instruments can be customised to best meet the lab's workload and testing requirements.
"The ARCHITECT family is all about increasing laboratory productivity and efficiency so test results get to physicians quickly," said Don Patton, vice president, global diagnostic commercial operations, Abbott. "Particularly with the introduction of ARCHITECT ci16200, our customers now have a high-speed, integrated analyser created specifically for the complex workload of large laboratories."
ARCHITECT instruments are designed with laboratory-focused features such as the capability to prioritize emergency tests, the ability to use common reagents among platforms and sample monitoring. These features not only minimize training, but also reduce inventory costs and sample contamination potential, leading to better results for laboratories, physicians and, ultimately, patients.
