John Sneddon, Haematology Product Specialist for Abbott Diagnostics Division, presented the prize to the winning student.
Mayu Kondo, a student at the University of Technology, Sydney, is studying for a Bachelor of Medical Science degree. Whilst studying at the university, Mayu is working as a Trainee Medical Scientist in the Department of Haematology, South Eastern Area Laboratory Services, Randwick campus, at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Here Mayu has had the opportunity to work side by side with dedicated scientists whose knowledge and experience in the field of diagnostic haematology has enriched her traineeship.
Mayu, who has always had an interest in medical science, chose a career path in this field as she has always had a fascination for how the body functions and how it responds to various disease states. "There is always so much to learn" in the field of medical science.
Mayu will graduate at the end of 2007. She is looking forward to working as a Medical Scientist in the field of Haematology. She is eager to apply the knowledge and experience she has gained through her academic work at the UTS and practical experience gained from her traineeship at the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Mayu has demonstrated her dedication to the field of diagnostic haematology and is ever mindful of the need to continually update her knowledge and improve her skills in her chosen profession.
Abbott Diagnostics is pleased to be associated with the Haematology Course at the University of Technology, Sydney and wishes Mayu every success in her future career.
