Value our Clinical Chemistry Solutions
Laboratories are challenged daily to do more with less in an environment of rising costs and limited resources. This reality has moved many laboratorians to consider new ways to achieve efficiency. In a recent survey, 70% of laboratorians stated that they planned to acquire an integrated system in their next purchasing cycle. In many cases, this results in consolidation of multiple testing types to one platform. Clinical Chemistry systems have become a popular approach to consolidation due to the ability to add multiple methodologies and still achieve the expected assay performance. Abbott has recognized these trends and focused our efforts on meeting the demands of today’s laboratories.
Abbott Clinical Chemistry offers laboratories a broad menu of high-quality reagents that are liquid ready-to-use, in uniquely designed wedges optimized for maximum workflow and cost effectiveness. Our comprehensive menu has grown to more than 100 applications validated for both serum and plasma*. The extensive menu provides equivalent results across all Abbott Clinical Chemistry platforms: ARCHITECT c8000, ARCHITECT c16000 and the Abbott Aeroset. A combination of photometric, (turbidimetric, enzymatic, etc…) potentiometric, calculated and Integrated Chip Technology in one analytical platform provides opportunities for consolidation and enhanced assay performance with no compromise to system throughput. Patented technologies such as FlexRate, which provides extended linearities for the most often diluted enzymes, allow laboratories to increase turn around times and reduce cost. Additionally, Abbott’s patented SmartWash technology minimizes reagent-to-reagent or sample-to-sample carryover by effectively cleaning cuvettes and probes. This technology and others ensures that laboratorians can have confidence in the results they report.
Overall, Abbott’s commitment to Clinical Chemistry is evident in our menu growth and continued assay optimization to ensure reliable assay performance, ease-of-use and optimized workflow in your laboratory.
*Excludes the following serum only assays: Iron, TIBC, ASO, Prealbumin, RF.

Enhanced System and Assay Dynamics
FlexRate™ Technology for Extended CC Assay Linearity
FlexRate Description:
- Uses 2 absorbance read windows (Main and Flex)
- If 3 consecutive points are within the main read window and linear, the final absorbance value is translated into the numerical result
- If the values are non-linear, then FlexRate uses the absorbance from an earlier read window to calculate the patient result.
FlexRate™ extends linearity of enzymes by using two absorbance read time windows

In a recent study, FlexRate reduced dilutions 6-18 times when compared to competitive alternatives and could eliminate an average of 48, 8-hour shifts required to perform dilutions without FlexRate.
- Reduced dilutions
- Reduced tech hands-on time
- Reduced reagent cost for 1 result
- Reduced error
- Overall increase in efficiency

Turnaround Time (TAT) and Flexibility
- The ci8200 demonstrated the best** overall speed and consistency for STAT samples for chemistry, immunoassay, and combined chemistry, and immunoassay.
- The ci8200 also performed extremely well for all the individual immunoassays, showing faster turnaround times for most routine and STAT assays vs competitive integrated systems.
- The ci8200 had better Turnaround Times (TAT) for nearly all chemistry tests vs competitive integrated systems that were evaluated.
- Reduced Routine TAT
- Reduced STAT TAT
- Increase in Efficiency

Consolidation is achievable with the Architect’s broad menu and reagent capacity.
- A broad menu, including General Chemistry, Proteins (>25 assays), DOAs (> 10 assays) and TDMs (>10 assays) and a high reagent capacity deliver options and flexibility for consolidation of menu onto one system.
- Reduce maintenance, improve efficiency and save costs with consolidation on the Architect cSystems! Abbott is committed to menu growth! Menu at launch in 2003
- 36 assays (50 applications including urine and CSF) Menu January 2008*
- 97 assays (111 applications including urine and CSF) 5 NEW and 3 Next Generation assays planned for 2008.

*WW Menu (some assays not available within the US)
True Integration of Clinical Chemistry and Immunoassay is achievable with less than 0.1 ppm carry-over
- 1 tube for IA and CC assay with accurate results
- Reduce maintenance, improve efficiency and save costs by using integrated system

Small Sample Handling
- Fewer re-sticks providing a great advantage for pediatric and geriatric populations
- Our assays require less sample volume. For example a sample size as small as 2 uL for an individual test, 15uL for ISEs or < 35uL for a Basic Metabolic Panel

- Small Sample Volume
- Increased efficiency
- Reduced Error
